BPS Assures 2026 Economic Census Data Won‘t Be Used for Taxation
JAKARTA, DDTCNews - Statistics Indonesia (Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS in Indonesian) has assured that data collected from entrepreneurs in the 2026 Economic Census will not be used for taxation purposes.
Head of Statistics Indonesia, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, stated the confidentiality of entrepreneurs' data is protected under Law 27/2022 on Personal Data Protection (PDP Law).
"The data that you provide through the questionnaires will be kept confidential and secure. I can confirm it has no connection whatsoever to taxation," she said, as quoted on Wednesday (17/6/2026).
Further, Amalia added, the confidentiality of personal data of individuals participating in the 2026 Economic Census is also protected under Law 16/1997 concerning Statistics.
"There is no need to worry. The confidentiality of your data will be maintained. Data security will be upheld and it has no connection to tax," she claimed.
Accordingly, Amalia encouraged entrepreneurs to receive census officers and complete the questionnaire accurately. She noted that the accuracy and honesty of data submitted by entrepreneurs is key to producing reliable data.
Meanwhile, Director of People's Welfare Statistics of Statistics Indonesia, Budi Setiawan, also noted that the census is conducted to produce aggregate data by the Indonesian Standard Industrial Classification (Klasifikasi Baku Lapangan Usaha Indonesia/KBLI in Indonesian) code, instead of individual data.
Individual data collected during the census will be used solely for statistical purposes and not for implementing audits, investigations or any taxation-related purposes.
"The census results are presented in the form of national, sectoral and regional summary tables. No identity or details of any particular business unit will be disclosed to the public. There is therefore no need to be concerned about this economic census," he said.
On another note, Article 35A of the General Provisions and Tax Procedures Law already requires government agencies, institutions, associations and other parties (instansi pemerintah, lembaga, asosiasi, dan pihak lain/ILAP in Indonesian) to provide tax-related data and information to the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT).
The list of government agencies, institutions, associations and other parties required to submit data to the DGT is detailed in the Appendix to the Minister of Finance Regulation 8/2026. Statistics Indonesia is not one of the government agencies, institutions, associations and other parties pursuant to the Appendix. (rig)
