JAKARTA, DDTCNews - The government has decided to further extend the imposition of safeguard import duties (BMTP) on imports of curtain products (including drapes/curtains), interior blinds, bed valances, and other furnishing articles.
BMTP on imports of curtain and blind products has been imposed since 2020 under PMK 54/2020 and was extended through PMK 45/2023. Nonetheless, BMTP is still required as imports of curtain and blind products continue to surge.
"Following up on the recommendation from the Indonesian Trade Safeguard Committee, the Minister of Trade has proposed to the Minister of Finance to impose safeguard import duties on imports of curtain products (including drapes/curtains), interior blinds, bed valances, and other furnishing articles," reads one of the considerations of PMK 36/2026, as quoted on Saturday (23/5/2026).
BMTP is a state levy to remedy serious injury or prevent the threat of serious injury suffered by the domestic industry as a result of a surge in the volume of imported goods compared with similar goods or goods directly competing, with the aim of enabling the domestic industry experiencing serious injury or the threat of serious injury to make the necessary adjustments.
PMK 36/2026 stipulates that BMTP is imposed on imports of curtain products (including drapes/curtains), interior blinds, bed valances, and other furnishing articles falling under tariff headings 6303.12.00, 6303.19.90, 6303.91.00, 6303.92.00, 6303.99.00, 6304.19.90, 6304.91.90, and 6304.92.00.
The BMTP extension is imposed for 2 years, or until 2028. The annex to PMK 36/2026 sets out the BMTP rates to be applied to curtain and blind imports in detail.
The BMTP rate of Rp9,841 per kilogram will be applied in the first year covering the period 22 May 2026 to 21 May 2027. A rate of Rp9,248 per kilogram will then be applied in the second year covering the period 22 May 2027 to 21 May 2028.
The BMTP rates imposed are lower than those previously stipulated under PMK 45/2023. At that time, the BMTP rate was set at Rp22,717 per kilogram for the first year, Rp16,595 per kilogram in the second year, and Rp10,473 per kilogram in the third year.
The BMTP imposed is in addition to the general import duty (most favoured nation/MFN); or preferential import duty based on international agreements or arrangements, that have already been imposed.
BMTP is imposed on imports of curtain products (including drapes/curtains), interior blinds, bed valances, and other furnishing articles from all countries.
PMK 36/2026 came into force on 22 May 2026. (dik)
